Way back in October of 2022, I (Kelsey) was fortunate enough to moderate a panel discussion at the Historical Romance Retreat in San Diego, CA. This discussion features authors Jennifer Ashley, Jade Lee, and Amalie Howard. We spoke about how writing romance has changed through the decades. Books that featured heroes/heroines outside tradition became best sellers, allowing authors to draw inspiration and create the more dynamic books we enjoy today. There is also discussion on how the publishing industry, the gift that is Shonda Rhimes, and how we can still enjoy common tropes featuring characters that are more representative of our world.
